Sophora Tetraptera

Sophora Tetraptera
Kowhai

New Zealand's traditional national flower, found naturally throughout the North Island. This graceful spreading tree has a larger leaf giving the foliage an attractive fluffy texture when viewed from a distance. The masses of bird attracting flowers which appear later in spring than other Kowhais are a striking lemon yellow and will attract birds from great distances to feed on the nectar. To get a longer spread of flowers for attracting birds into the garden, plant one of each species of Kowhai. 5m x 4m.
